Registration Requirements: Preregistration required.
Intended Audience: This program is designed for adults.
Program Description: Gather together as we highlight the autumn bounty with our unique mix of foraging, cultivation of native plants for food, and interactive conservation. We’ll carry this gathering’s theme, “harvesting without harming,” through our conference-style blend of in-the-field, hands-on activities interspersed with sit-down classes and lite food bites. We’ll close out the day with a foragers fair.
What to Expect: This foraging experience will operate in conference-style format (you choose which session you’d like to attend during two time blocks—specific information on sessions will be available by September). Sessions will be a blend of partial hands-on activity with small group hiking, harvesting, and food prep (there are sit-down sessions during each time block if you’d rather stay by the building). You’ll head home with some make-and-take foraged swag. This Foragers’ Workshop includes:
Terrain: Uneven terrain with hills and/or steps
Pace: Meander/stroll gentle, slow walking pace)
Distance: We’ll walk between 1 and 2 miles at most. If you are concerned about walking, there will be a number of things to do near the building.
Stops: There will be bathroom and bench stops at the start and end of the program.
Where to Meet: Please meet at Groesbeck Estate at our Rowe Woods location (4949 Tealtown Rd., Milford, OH 45150).
Cost: Ticket fees include daily admission.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Is Foragers’ Workshop different from the May 2024 Foragers Gathering? Yes, a new roster of classes, walks, unique foods, and experiences ensures Foragers’ Workshop will be a completely new experience.
Is food served? Lite bite food samples will be shared throughout the program. As we won’t be serving a full meal, consider bringing your own snacks. Vegan-friendly lite bite options will be available. Options will be available to substitute for common allergens.
Will drinks be available? Alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available. Please bring an ID. ID checks are required for the consumption of alcohol.
What happens during “Foragers Fair?” Foragers fair is a free choice opportunity to ask more in-depth questions of session instructors, try out equipment, spend extra time on things that interest you, pick up swag, try food bites, and more.
How should I dress? Be prepared for on-trail walking with some off-trail harvesting. Long pants suggested.
What should I bring? Bring a water bottle, a mug, and plate as well as utensils. Don’t worry, we’ll have extras available in case you forget.
Can I come and forage on my own? Always ask for permission from the landowner before foraging. Cincinnati Nature Center sees upwards of 200,000 visitors per year—if even a fraction of those visitors harvested, it would have an impact on the site (and what’s available for programs). Please join us for a foraging program.
