Make and Take: "Nocino" Black Walnut Liqueur

DATE: Sunday 11/22/26   TIME: 1:30pm - 3:30pm

Registration Requirements: Preregistration required.

Intended Audience: This program is exclusively for adults 21+.  ID required.

Program Description: Nocino, a walnut liqueur, has been made from immature white walnuts in northern Italy for centuries. Known for its bittersweet character, nocino makes for an excellent digestif and is very versatile in cocktails. In this hands-on class, we’ll make a hyper-local version of this nutty liqueur by using our native black walnuts. Using frozen immature walnuts (harvested in June), we'll walk you through the steps to create your own nocino.

You’ll receive instructions on next steps (walnuts need to steep in vodka for several months before being strained out. Add your own water and sugar, then let the bottle rest). When it’s all said and done, you’ll have about a pint of nocino.

What to Expect: This is an entirely indoor cooking program in a small group. We’ll have a group of 10-12 people in an enclosed catering kitchen space.

  • We’ll be standing for the most part, but will have chairs available.
  • Krippendorf Lodge is accessible for wheeled assistive devices.
  • Restrooms are available throughout the program.
  • Pets are not permitted at Cincinnati Nature Center programs or events.
  • This program is completely indoors.
  • Program runs rain or shine.

What to Bring: Bring your apron if desired.

What to Wear: Wear “ok to get dirty” clothes as we’ll be working with food. Wear sturdy shoes as we’ll be standing for much of the time (chairs available).

Where to Meet: Registered participants will meet in the catering kitchen of Krippendorf Lodge at our Rowe Woods location. Please use the entrance on the loop driveway side of the lodge to access the kitchen. (4949 Tealtown Road, Milford, OH 45150)

Cost: Ticket fees include daily admission.
